These are some of the things to expect each month.

 

August

 

  • Attend Back to School Meeting with other media specialists
  • Receive allocation of annual funds at Back to School Meeting
  • Sign out AV and computer equipment to teachers for the year
  • Order classroom sets of newspapers (Newspapers in Education)
  • Present Copyright Presentation to Faculty
  • Open house presentation
  • Brochure for new teachers
  • Elementary—Print out student barcodes
  • Student Orientation
  • Teacher Orientation
  • Ask staff to suggest items to order

 

September

 

  • Banned Books Week 
  • Continue orientations 
  • Present or remind students and teachers of Acceptable Use Policy 
  • Introduce On-Line Databases to students 
  • Share BES books with Language Arts classes 
  • Prepare book orders 

 

October

  • Elementary—Turn in class schedule to Media Supervisor 
  • MASL Fall Conference 
  • Attend in-service day on conference day 
  • Teen Read Week 

 

November

 

  • 80% of Library Media Annual allotment should be encumbered
  • National Education Week

 

December

 

January

 

  • Start inventory  (you decide when to do this task)
  • Attend curriculum meeting during semester break

 

 

 

February

 

  • Weeding  (You decide when to do this task) 

 

March

 

  • Attend in-service meeting on conference day
  • MICCA Conference in Baltimore

 

April

 

  • Magazine order for next school year
  • National Library Week
  • Turn in Black Eyed Susan votes for your school
  • Annual State Report
  • National Poetry Month

 

May

  • Order newspapers for next school year 
  • Children’s  Book Week 

 

June

  • Finalize inventory 
  • Collect all books from students and teachers 
  • Prepare obligation forms for student signature 
  • Turn in signed obligation forms to front office 
  • May start entering requisitions for next school year for release after July 1
