In order for school librarians to ensure that faculty members, students, and parents remain active participants in the school library community, librarians must continue to grow as professionals. In order for school librarians to ensure that all components of their strategic goals are met and to continue to advocate for their libraries, participation in professional development opportunities is essential.

Awards/Grants

  

ABC- CLIO Leadership Grant- An annual grant of up to a total of $1,750 awarded for school library leadership programs that involve new members, train on-going leaders, prepare school librarians to be building or district level leaders, and encourage collaboration among organizations. Sponsored by AASL and ABC-CLIO

 

Collaborative School Library Award- A cash reward of $2,500 will be given to a school library that encourages collaboration and partnerships between school librarians and classroom teachers. Awarded by ALA.

 

Distinguished School Administrators Award- Given to honor administrators outside the library profession who through leadership and sustained effort have made worthy contributions to the operations of effective school library services and to advancing the role of the school library services in the education program. Awarded by ALA and ProQuest.

 

Media Specialist Technology Innovation Award- Given to honor innovative technology projects created through collaboration between K-12 teachers and media specialist. Awarded by the International Society for Technology in Education. 

 

TEAMS Award- Recognizes and encourages collaboration between teacher and media specialist to promote learning and increase student achievement. Every two years, a cash prize will be given to three winners in the amount of $2,500, Gale products, a one-year subscription to Library Media Connection, and Educator’s Professional Bookself.  Awarded by Gale/Library Media Connection.

 

The World Book ALA Goal Award- Given twice annually with a cash prize of $5,000 for innovative and effective information literacy programs in public and school libraries.

Collaborative Leadership Roles:- This plan's goal is for all teachers who are members of the school community to be effective collaborators and take part in more leadership roles.

 

Information Access- This plan's goal focuses on teachers having access to a variety of quality resources to effectively plan instruction.

 

Use of Resources -  This plan's goal is to increase teacher enthusiasm and use of  the school library materials.
